Class Descriptions
Beginners
This beginning yoga class covers breathing techniques and basic yoga postures. You will become more in tune with your body, as you strengthen and tone. Additionally, through focus and relaxation you will improve your breath awareness and control.
Beginners/Level 1
This class builds upon a traditional Beginner's class, offering additional instructions and modifications so practitioners can further expand their yoga practice, helping them prepare for a Level 1 class.
Candlelight Flow All-levels
Destress from a day at the office with a gentle yoga flow accompanied by candlelight. This class is open to students of all levels looking for a peaceful yet energizing yoga experience. Candlelight Flow Level 1 requires previous yoga experience as the postures flow together for a slightly more vigorous practice,
Feldenkrais Movement
This class utilizes precisely structured movement explorations that involve thinking, sensing, moving, and imagining. Many are based on developmental movements and ordinary functional activities. The lessons consist of comfortable, easy movements that gradually evolve into movements of greater range and complexity.
Flow Yoga
In this class, yoga postures flow from one to another, from standing to seated to reclining poses. Students should be familiar with basic yoga postures before taking a flow class because the postures move more quickly, creating heat in the body. Modifications allow individuals to move at their own pace, according to their level and ability.
Flow Yoga Preparation
This class prepares you to participate safely in flow classes. It will focus on in-depth instructions of movements that transition you from one pose to another. Learning these transitional movements properly will loosen up your joints and strengthen them, helping to prevent injury. This class also helps build abdominal and upper body strength.
Gentle Yoga
This slow moving class focuses on stretching the entire body and working the muscles in a gentle manner. These movements will increase circulation and relieve tension in the body. An emphasis on breath and relaxation will soothe the body and mind while increasing your breath capacity and mental clarity.
GLBT Yoga
An all levels yoga class open to everyone, including the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered community.
Healthy Back Yoga
Whether you have a flexion fault (herniated or bulging discs, strained low back muscles, sacroiliac sprain or sciatica) ; an extention fault (facet syndromes, spinal stenosis or spondylolisthesis) or a rotational fault like scoliosis, this class will help you strengthen and stretch out your body to reduce or eliminate pain and discomfort.
Level 1 Technique
In this class you will learn the classical poses, emphasizing alignment and precise actions of the body. The poses will be held for a longer time than many other classes to build stamina. Specific sequencing will bring awareness of the physical, mental and emotional changes that occur during the practice. The class will help create awareness of the inner body and cultivate an alert and focused mind, so that vitality, balance and coordination are all enhanced.
Level 1 Yoga
This class expands upon the Beginners’ class, offers in-depth instruction in the basic postures and simple flowing movements. In this class, poses can be sustained for longer periods of time or may move more quickly; modifications are always offered. Your awareness of your breath and body will increase. Your strength and balance will improve as your chronic tension releases.
Level 1-2 Yoga
For the advanced beginner or intermediate yoga practitioner, this class offers more in-depth instruction in the basic postures. It also introduces more advanced postures with detailed instructions for those who are ready for a personal challenge. In this class, poses can be sustained for longer periods of time or may move more quickly, especially in a Flow Yoga class.
Level 2 Yoga
This class combines basic and advanced yoga postures with the broader concepts behind yoga and in-depth instructions for challenging poses. This class is geared toward those who seek to make yoga an integral part of their lives. It requires the strength and stamina of daily practice.
Mat Pilates
Pilates strengthens your core; it tones and lengthens the muscles in the trunk of the body, the abdominal and lower back. In this class, you will learn how releasing stress in one part of the body can improve mobility in other parts. Pilates decompresses joints and releases muscle tension and is especially beneficial for your back and neck.
Meditation
Calm the mind, reduce stress and enjoy greater clarity in your life through meditation. This class introduces and explores various forms of meditation and breathing techniques, all of which can help reduce stress, heart disease, high blood pressure, and certain immune system disorders
Morning Flow- All levels
Start your morning with a combination of gentle stretching and an energizing flow of yoga postures. An invigorating practice for students of all levels.
Power Yoga
Power yoga is an fitness-based approach to vinyasa-style yoga for the advanced beginner or intermediate yoga practitioner. Strength building repetitions are utilized to
build muscle and stabilize the joints. A fun, athletic class for those ready to break a sweat!
Prenatal Yoga
This class is specifically designed to help prepare the body and mind for labor, birth and motherhood. These classes also deepen the bond with your baby prenatally. Postures are carefully chosen to be safe for mom and baby and help you more easily adapt to the physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy and childbirth. We teach specialized movements and breathing techniques to be used during labor. Our “pregnancy circle” provides a source of support and encouragement from each other.
Restorative Yoga
This class provides a deep, peaceful yoga practice focusing on breath and relaxation. Most postures utilize props to allow for fully supported stretches that are held for longer periods of time to allow the body to soften and lengthen. Modifications are provided for specific body types and injuries. This is an excellent class to relieve you from stress, headaches and fatigue.
Senior Yoga
It's never too late to enjoy the many health benefits of yoga. This is a gentle beginner yoga class designed especially for individuals ages 50 and up, as well as for folks who live each day with chronic health issues. Guaranteed to increase mobility, inspire tranquility, and promote an overall sense of well-being.
Tai Chi Foundations
Tai Chi is a therapeutic martial art combining movement with Chi (energy) circulation, breathing, and stretching techniques. It utilizes the ancient philosophy of Yin-Yang and the Five Element theories for its foundation and to establish its training principles. Tai Chi has shown to have numerous health benefits.
Therapeutic Yoga
